Please add feedback on the new Course UX in this pad. If you notice a problem, please check to see if it has already been reported and add your feedback where applicable. Please also add suggestions on how things can be improved if you have any.
Known issues:
- Title editing for course content
Feedback from creating a course (PS):
- Create a course ( http://alpha.p2pu.org/courses/create )
- [D] Language dropdown should default to current langauge of the site
- [minor] Language options should be restricted, no regional options like "British english", Argentinian Spanish, etc.
- [important] Help text needs to be updated
- [D] Replace "Ex. an introduction to webcraft" -> "Enter the title here ... "
- [D] Replace "Plug" with "Description" (plug is US jargon)
- [D] Rename "Plug" and "Short Title" in code
- [CSS] Fields that allow text entry should have same background color (currently, title/short-title are grey, plug is white)
- [D] Add help-text for "short-title"
- [D] change name of "short title" to "hashtag"
- [CSS] The use of fonts in forms seems inconsistent with overall site (titles are usually Arvo, Text is mostly Sense)
- [minor] indicate that only plain text is accepted in "plug" box
- [D] indicate character limit on "short title"
- After clicking on Create course >> Course home page ( http://alpha.p2pu.org/en/courses/15/bread-biology/ )
- Title and short-title
- [D] Layout. List title at the top and first (find a new space for short-title/hash-tag)
- [minor] Would prefer in-place editing for title. Drop-down editing is "unusual" - it actually works quite well if you can figure out that the little icon means "edit"
- [very minor] Standardize editing buttons to "Update" or "Save" without specifying the field each time. I'm only listing this because we are still changing terminology a lot and I'm worried that we'll end up with a lot of inconsistency - I also think it's clear enough without ;-)
- [medium] look of help-text in About is inconsistent with previous forms. Would make temporary help text italic and markedly different.
- Left Column
- [minor for power users, but important once we open this up] Course status: Draft - Publish - Archive
- This course is still in draft - Add ? and helptext what that means
- It's not clear to the user that the button "Publish" changes the draft status
- Could show three radio buttons "Draft", "Published" & "Archived" so users understand the three states?
- [minor] Scheduling
- Make this a positive statement: "This course doesn't have start and end dates" -> "User can join this course at any time"
- "edit" -> "Add a start and end date"
- [medium] Change label of button "Update Fixed term" -> "Save" or "Update" (see comment above)
- [D] Clicking on "Update fixed term" throws an Internal server error
- Sign-up
- Not clear what the different options mean. User doesn't know what happens when she clicks the button.
- Consider doing three radio button layout that lists the options with ?/help for each
- Leave-course
- Not clear what that means / why it's there
- Should have horizontel separator from other sections
- Badges Tab
- [minor] Enter default text "Woah ... hold on amigo. Badges, coming soon."
- People Tab
- [medium] Enter help-text in the "Add user" textfield ... "Start typing a username and we'll auto-complete it for you ... "
- [medium] How do I add an "Organizer"? Maybe add a checkbox that says "Add as moderator" - by default the box is not checked
- [important] user1 shows up in the drop-down, but when I try to add, I get an error "User doesnt not exit"
- [IMPORANT] error messages should be english -> "User does not exist" or "User doesn't exist" or "Sorry, we can't find that user in our database."
- [important] after clicking on "Add user" I expect to return to the People page (currently it takes me back to the About page)
- Content Tab
- [minor] See comment on helptext above in "course home page" section. Standardize the look of helptext.
- [D] "No content have been added" -> "This course doesn't have any content yet. Click here to add some."
- [D] Once there is some content, a "+" sign is used to add more content. We are not using that anywhere else. Would replace with text "Add more content."
- Disussion Tab
- [D] Add a super short description above the disqus iframe. "This page is for general discussion of the course. Feel free to post questions, comments, ideas.]
- Top Nav
- [D] Reorder: About - Discussion - People - Badges
- [important] Unify overall course layout
- Currently there are two different layouts for "Content" and "Home page"
- Suggestion: move all content into the left column (and remove from tab navigation)
- "Content"
- <Auto-generated list of content-items)
- Push the course description / admin section down
- Content Navigation (left column) This might be redundant if we update the overall layout as mentioned above
- [medium] Fix layout / CSS to be consistent with rest of site
- Create course content
- [ND] Click on "discard content" or "update content" should take the user to the content overview page (currently it takes user back to the about page)
- [D] If there is no page content, "update content" deletes the title - should instead do one of two things pop up an error message or create an empty page with the title (my preference is to create the empty page)
- Course content
- [D] Add disqus field below content rather than in a separate tab
CSS / UX
- Top navigation bar
- Font of main asks is blurry (Find Great Courses | Create a Course)
- Suggestion: Use straight font without shadow
- Top right. Little "flag" icon next to username is not clear. Also duplicative as Inbox link is in dropdown.
- Suggestion: Remove flag icon
- Home page - Activity Feed
- Suggestion: Remove from home page for now
- Home page - Footer
- Separation between links not obvious
- Suggestion: Add | characters between links, e.g. Help | About | ....
- Left side text block "What is P2PU" - block font looks awkward
- Suggestion: Make font align left (not block)
- Home page - Featured course vignettes
- Autospacing adds excessive space between vignettes when browser window is wider
- Suggestion: Don't auto-adjust the layout after a certain screen size
- Home page - Schools listing doesn't degrade nicely
- On narrow windows it breaks into two lines
- In order to look good window has to be wide - creates problem with featured course vignettes (mentioned above)
- Suggestion: Not sure ... maybe fix the auto-layout
