Position: P2PU Learning Lead
About the Job
We are seeking a learning lead who wants radically improve the way people learn online. This is a full-time remote contract position that reports to the Executive Director.
The position has two goals:
- Ensure that the P2PU learning model and platform foster engaging learning experiences for all users
- Design and build assessment and certification mechanisms that scale and recognize higher order skills
Responsibilities
In order to achieve the goals, the learning lead will focus broadly on three areas:
Create awesome learning experiences
- Design the core peer to peer learning model and assessment practices and translate them into features for the P2PU platform
- Work closely with P2PU product manager and dev team to manage implementation of the learning and assessments features
- Represent the "learning" focus and voice in all product design processes
Design assessment & certification mechanisms
- Design an overall approach to assessment at P2PU that recognizes a broad range of skills including 21st century skills
- Ensure that P2PU assessments are robust, valid, evidence-based and data-driven, and can scale
- Design wireframes for new assessment features
- Design alternative mechanisms to recognize users' achievements (incl. through badges)
- Support "schools" (e.g. School of Ed, Data or Games) to define community specific assessments and certification
- Understanding of game mechanics, leveling up etc a bonus
Conduct and coordinate research
- Design metrics and implement analytics to track, better understand, and improve all aspects of the learning experience (incl. retention, achievements, etc.)
- Conduct original research in areas relevant to P2PU, including peer to peer learning online, peer assessment practices, and certification mechanisms for informal learners
- Promote P2PU as a research platform and support a community of research partners
Profile / Requirements
- Researcher - Solid understanding of learning and assessment theory and practice, but open to rethinking the conventional wisdom.
- Builder - Able to translate evidence-based learning design into website features and UX.
- Doer - able to manage own time and move multiple parallel projects forward, in a highly distributed environment.
- Organizer - Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and reliability. You don't let things slip through the cracks.
- Sharer - Comfortable working "in the open", sharing work early and often and engaging the community.
- Occasional Traveler - Able to travel occasionally for conferences, meet-ups and presentations.
Bonus Points
- Previous contributions to P2PU.
- Contributions to other open projects and communities.
- An eye and passion for design (typography, branding, etc).
- Experience working as part of an asynchronous distributed team.
