Agenda
Core of the call. Focused on four types of conversations (invited guests, challenges you need help with, proposals you want feedback on, ideas you need collaborators for).
- Lightning Task! Flash brainstorm of outreach circles for P2PU (max: 2 mins)
- Add quick ideas to existing list: http://pad.p2pu.org/p/rounds (line 34)
- This list is a roadmap for us to reach out to people to ask for some publicity for the new round of courses
- In order to facilitate this, Ali is putting together a small press kit with info that can be used to put together blog posts about the rounds and/or individual courses
- Ali will make sure that this information is kept somewhere with contact details, so that we can access people regularly.
lin
- community badges > when should we launch them? makes sense for April 11? (lets decide on launch
- Ali -> YES PLEASE
- If the push is happening around courses for April 11th, can we (technically and organisationally) make sure that the community badges are ready for then.
- Zuzel -> shouldn't be a major change (we have to move things on the dev schedule during next tech call) -- probably good to convine with OBI integration and do both on the same release
- Philipp -> I'd love to see a description of how individual badges link back to certain 21st century skills or pedagogy, maybe we should discuss in separate call. Had a great conversation about this during DML conference. Sounds good.
- This might not be relevant to the P2PU community, but Open.Michigan just finished up a community badge pilot (quick summary slides: https://docs.google.com/present/view?id=dv9bcw5_76c4ksgxdf email me if you have questions (pkleymee@umich.edu) - sounds very relevant! nutshell summary?
- nutshell: faculty, students and staff were all really interested in using badges as markers of identity and participation in the O.M. community; they want to share these badges openly, but found the interplay between the O.M. site and the Mozilla backpack confusing.
- Faculty more likely to share badges than others
- People like the idea of giving badges to each other.
- About 25 people involved in the pilot.
- question -> what "types" of badges do you offer / did you propose? badges for "identity/roles" are great. there has been a lot of cautious feedback on badges that are markers of achievements instead.
- Blog Posts summarizing relevant thoughts on badges (incl. community badges) from DML:
- >curious if there was discussion about badge content vs general critisism or evangelism of badges. I like the focus on roles + identity
- Not sure I totally understand the question. what do you mean by "badge content"?
- Ali -> if we get a lot of courses created at once, what is the best way to scale the requests for badges? Is there a form?
- Chloe-> Not at the moment but we're working on a challenge creation interface, and this is part of the DML grant, so it's in the pipeline, but for now, let Chloe know.
- Ali -> perhaps a form, for now?
- John -> we could try and catch their attention at the point on the site when they are thinking about badges. (add link to survey? give feedback for badges)
- Next step: Chloe to talk to John and Zuzel, make sure that this is possible by the timeframe given.
General discussion and questions
- Adding community list to p2pu.org -> where: get involved or own page?
- We'd like to help people know that there is a way for them to know that they can get involved in the important discussions that take palce at P2PU
- Where is the best place to do this? And what is the best way to do it?
- John -> The user experience of an embedded google group would be sub-optimal.
- But it's on the agenda for the next dev call
- -1 on embedded google group :-) (I just think that we should use as few proprietery services/technologies as possible)
- Two separate issues: (1) UX of embedding the group (2) using proprietary tech.
- This is related to the P2PU as a Lab conversation. Important to "open the doors to the lab". Implementation details to be figured out ...
