Discussion
Badges (Rubric, ...)
- Questions:
- Can you use this rubric to evaluate a particular suite of badges within a larger system?
- Rubric is trying to more for guidance than evaluating an existing badge system (but it would apply). I do see the rubric working in most situations. it is what I am aspiring too.
- P2PU is very uniquely user-generated content--(see Philipp's comment below) how does this less "formal" approach to badges fit into your rubric?
- Thats the whole point IMO. helping people build there own accredition for their own curriculum, and courses they build for themselves or with a group. Heutagogy in practice, with accreditation, assessment is the next big challenge!
- What is the role of experimentation in your badge system evaluation?
- already these are great questions that could help make the rubric better...
- This is very focused on "accreditation" and using badges as an alternative to existing certification options - is there room for community based badges that have no intention to become accreditation? yes
- Suggestion: expand the rubric, or make it explicit that the rubric focuses on a particular type of badges
- Peter: All I know is I believe this community could provide valuable feedback of the rubric - think I need to find a more solid connectivity approach and join this call again. I really believe thier are some big experienced brains that could help here!!!! Let me experiment with some locations (I live on an island off the west coast of Canada, so G+ has sometimes been a problem, connectivity wise) Using a phone to call into the Hangout might be an idea, too.
- +1 Would be great to be able to really dig into this, but we need the connection to work for that
- Perhaps we can use the transcript of the call to motivate more questions - take the call video, copy critiques/questions etc into an email and use this to spark a discussion on the mailing list.
- Peter: Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!! +100k ;)
Board meeting preparation
- Meeting Date: 19 April
- What materials do we need (who can prepare them)?
- Finance update (budget) - PS
- Funding streams (current / future) - PS
- Reports on work we've done (short, maybe slides, we won't have time to go through these in the meeting) - I can help with this - ties directly in with the reports that I'm working on anyway
- Data policy - this affects them right? cuz they are legally responsible
- PS: Won't be able to bring it to the board for this meeting. We're not quite ready for making a recommendation. Can handle it by email with the board after the meeting.
- Notes / Lab - Community
- We've been good at one-off prototyping, and leveraging partnerships to do these
- But we haven't been so good at building long-term platform and service stuff (this has a sustainability element to it)
- Want to get an idea from the board in terms of what they feel we should do, in terms of strategy
- P's preference:
- 1 approach: here's what we do, how do we make this more durable
- 2nd approach: wht have we always wanted to do, that nobody else has, and how can we make that happen?
- Included in this is us needing to think what the relationship between P2PU and the Media Lab is
- Topics staff/community are interested in:
- Sustainability / enduring communities
- Can the board get more actively involved in fund-raising?
- 2 Topics for the meeting:
- Finance update
- Strategy - Lab/Community/Media Lab - 1/2 slides per item
