- Discussion
== Discourse ==
Invite Community to Discourse / Message (for Monday)
- We've enjoyed using Discourse (check out our discussion here -> Link to the topic on Discourse)
- It's a better way to talk about things as a community. It's more open than email. It's easier to see what's going on.
- Here is how you get started -> Just head to thepeople.p2pu.org and create an account
- Introduce yourself in this topic
- What happens to the community list? Nothing, we're not shutting down the list. We're just moving to Discourse.

== Making Games Course ==
Making Games @ P2PU: https://p2pu.org/en/courses/473/gameon-level-1/
- Welcome John!
- Thanks! You can reach me at john@jemartin.com
- This course is part of a class on video game design in schools.
- This summer will be presenting at Podstock in Wichita, KS (http://www.podstock2013.com/about) game design in schools, and thought that taking a P2PU course would be good training for the teachers who are learning how to tailer this for their own courses.
- Interested in adding badges to the course -hexagonal badge (http://bit.ly/hexbadge)
- Connect with all the other stuff happening with teacher PD this summer <-- this would be great to draw these connections. would be good to explore areas where we all overlap and plug in modules that span different schools, eg. i'm sure all these educator projects might want an OER module?
== User Story 1 ==
My First Data-Driven Story Ever: http://ourchiefweapons.wordpress.com/2013/06/02/my-first-data-driven-story-ever/
- Great example of someone getting involved with P2PU
- Took data explorer mission, and now signed up for Python MOOC
== User Story 2 ==
Came for the Software, Stayed for the People: http://info.p2pu.org/2013/06/13/came-for-the-software-stayed-for-the-people/
- The story of Tim, who showed up on Discourse one day and stuck around
- Has also worked on blog aggregator tool - sparked by a discussion on School of Open list
- +1
Do we want to select a course or two to feature on the front page right now?
== Home Page Redesign / UX ==
Home page:
- homepage: http://i.imgur.com/yVWWUWp.png
- the homepage should *always* have a picture of piet! why? for obvious reasons
- typo under schools on home page "a other" should be "others"?
- this is not finished product
- mooc: http://i.imgur.com/zyEoSBk.jpg <- what do we want to say here?
- schools: http://i.imgur.com/rJFlZx1.png <- what do we want to say here?
- research
- people--individual learners
- reports
- what should be on the about page?
- what elements should be in the header?
- About,
- People.
- What more
- Move community and blog to the top, Merge People and About
- is there a way to navigate to Schools then without being on the home page?
- that is a good point -> do we need a separate nav bar for courses.p2pu.org (which includes schools)?
- Meta links above the line
- What is the one callout on the homepage if we only have one?
- Jane: Join a course
- Learn something new today with links to Courses, Schools, Badges, MOOCs
- DU: I'm comfortable pointing people into a discussion forum
- Theres also help content to onboard new community members
== Course UX Feedback / Process ==
Course Feedback and Suggestions (share updates): https://trello.com/board/feedback-and-suggestions/519f1f8ec9622886280016ff
- Did everyone agree on the call a couple weeks about this process? eg.
- 1) School organizers will collect and distill feedback from organizers
- 2) School organizers will check in via regular (monthly or every 6 weeks) calls with P2PU staff to relay this feedback and check on progress
- This can be on the community call? once a month? So next meeting on 11 July community call
- +1
- 3) P2PU staff will add mutually agreed upon changes to a shared Trello board open to everyone. Anyone can join the monthly calls or add to Trello board? Or did you guys discuss a dif way to get individuals not affiliated with a School to provide feedback?
Questions about Schools
- Comment: I got kicked off the call, connection issues - so I'm just reading the etherpad. I've had some issues in the past with School organizers not really being open to new courses participating in their Schools - so I'd love to get some more clarification about who's allowed to join a School, and how that process is supposed to work. (I know not quite the topic here, but wanted to bring it up so it's on the radar screen). - who's Q is this? Also the answer depends on the school. for SOO we have guidelines and a process: http://pad.p2pu.org/p/school-of-open-course-review
- Cool, so I'd ask them about the process and/or ask to have a course apply. I guess i also worry that lone courses tend not to get attention - maybe i should start a school of interdisciplinary studies :-) UC Berkeley has a department of interdisciplinary studies, for example. Yup - contacting that groups email list or school organizer is the way to go. I try to make this clear on the SOO landing page - how to get involved and join the school. There is also no reason why a course can't be featured as part of more than one school if it is interdisciplinary :)
- Yeah, that's the funny part about a department of interdisciplianry studies ... like, why not just have the departments work together?
