- Question -> Do we like this format for the report back? Should we take the first 5 min to fill out
- This is revert back to the old way (right?), last weeks etherpad looks different (it's the old way with a twist - focused around "projects" not people)
- How come we are still very active in google groups? Does it make more sense to convince people to come to discourse than to make double posting?
- Good and important question.
- I think posting links to Discourse is a good start (will slowly shift people over)
- Does anyone have other suggestions?
- My suggestion is when you get involved in the dicussion on google try to redirect it to discourse
- All Project Owners -> Please store Project plans in Discourse (see notes further below)
Agenda
School of Open courses for Round 2 ready to review:
- Writing Wikipedia Articles: The Basics and Beyond - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:School_of_Open_course
- Reviewers: Billy
- Green
- Welcome/orientation page is great, overview of tools and schedule is nice
- +time zone calculator is great for international peeps
- Social media connection (hashtag + CommOER account) are good
- Each week has an Intro + lab session + homework + extra credit,
- Yellow
- How to earn the WikiSOO Burba badge - may benefit from an explicit example, show how candidacy for the badge will be confirmed (edits tracked thru Wikipedia, etc)
- Lots of ideas for extra credit, but hard to tell what the motivation for learners to do them would be
- Re: combining time zone table and class schedule: this is a good idea as long as it's clear
- Red
- Looks like the updates for this specific round of facilitation are noted, but not made yet (will this be done over the weekend?)
- Copyright 4 Educators (AUS) - https://p2pu.org/en/courses/632/copyright-4-educators-aus/
- Reviewers: Bekka
- Green:
- The signposting. So much thought has gone into explaining the logistics of taking this course. It's fantastic.
- The badge
- Yellow:
- I'm not sure about the order of the materials after week 7- shouldn't the badge (which is listed as C4E OER Basics) be at the end of the course, after the Congrats page?
- Or can there be another badge for completion, if the previous two are midway "marker" badges
- Red:
- Nothing. This course has become a living legend...
- Copyright 4 Educators (US) - https://p2pu.org/en/courses/667/copyright-for-educators-us/
- Reviewers: Jane
- Green
- Overall - this is looking really great Laura! Lots of work on the administration/logistics/communications. Great job!
- Very clear opening on About! I know what I'm getting into
- Love the wrap-up and feedback tab! - maybe we can post in links to pre and post survey from OER research hub? or do you plan to email that out to folks
- Yellow
- About page - listing other SOO courses, maybe with an explanation that they are other courses in the SOO? and also add a link to Collaborative workshops (https://p2pu.org/en/courses/77/collaborative-workshops-in-informal-learning-spaces/ )
- Jessica/Delia have a nice email about how to use the forum/Disqus -- I'll forward that to you so you can use it too!
- Contact info and office hours - so great you'll be holding this! Should a time/day be specified? and also how to join Google hangout?
- Collaboration tools: I like that you make it clear here! However - might rename page to Communicating in this course, and then make collaboration tools a subheading, eg. when you mention etherpad
- Also I would link to what you mean by course materials here -- is it the disqus forum or the google group?
- Still loving the Case Scenario pages. On those pages underneath the assignment, I might also reiterate where the group should be submit the assignments, eg. Case Scenario 3 has this. (but still also needs to specify -- paste in via email text? or link to doc?)
- You can export emails as a course facilitator (under People tab). Do you plan to use that to add emails manually to a Google group? or are you going to tell them to do it in the initial email to folks?
- Red
- Submitting group responses section in Student work commitment -- so should they write in their entire response in the forum? or provide al ink to a document elsewhere?
- I will help incorporate badges once you make me an organizer! :)
- Getting Started -- oops. I'm confused. I thought you meant to post group assignments in the Disqus forum... but you say Google forum here. Which is it? We should make clear when we reference forum in all the other pages
- Also - we mention Groups -- but then here we say identify a partner. I think it is best if the facilitator chooses a partner or group for them -- otherwise they won't do it
- Ah ok - I see the Group assignments tab. Maybe we can link to this and specify this page on the Getting Started page when we say choose a partner? Or make it just more very clearly evident how groups will be formed/assigned
- Open Science: An Introduction - https://p2pu.org/en/courses/5/open-science-an-introduction/
- Reviewers: P and EP
- Green
- (sorry to but in on your feedback P) I Like how the badges are integrated (there is five) - Get out of my feedback! ;-) NO!You two are hilarious
- About Page: Love the Acknowledgements section. Good practice. And makes the course more attractive to someone thinking about signing-up. Gives a sense of a community that stands behind it (maybe add links to peoples' blogs - as a way to reward them?)
- Billy's Badges are the bomb (+1 The badges are amazing!)
- I also love how You provide the event participation right there on the spot.
- The language is clear and easy to understand even for non-english speakers
- How awesome is this -> People are starting to do the course already
- Yellow:
- On About Page: I really like that you offer options to lurk. Would add the possibility to read the disqus comments on the actual course pages as well (gives a differnet lense into the learning)
- Would make it more clear that participants have to "Start a Blog" if they don't have one already. It's kind of slipped into the How This Course Works section. You could just add a section on that page "Getting Started / Do this now...." or do as a separate page Totally agree, noted. Thanks P.
- A little bit of layout/HTML weirdness on https://p2pu.org/en/courses/5/content/11/ (Content text is too large) - I noticed that this is the same on all module start pages (feel free to ignore)
- Red
- Collaborative Workshops in Informal Learning Spaces - https://p2pu.org/en/courses/77/collaborative-workshops-in-informal-learning-spaces/
- Reviewers: VMG
- Green:
- Yellow
- Module 4 doesn't have a prompt--did you want to ask folks to reflect?
- Is there only 1 Google hangout over 4 weeks? I see an agenda for the first one, but it's not clear if you expect folks to continue with that
- Red
- Why Open? - https://p2pu.org/en/courses/588/why-open/
- Reviewers: DU
- Green
- Integration with badges!!
- I like the idea of having different levels of engagement for week 1.
- Yellow
- The about page is long. Maybe cut info on twitter, etc?
- It seems like a lot of content, maybe structure it more in a way where there is a main takeaway each week and then extra activities thats supplimental
- Item 3 & 4 both reads 19-25 August
- Maybe include some text on badge pages to explain what to do about the badges
- Red
- Creative Commons for K-12 Educators - https://p2pu.org/en/courses/620/creative-commons-for-k-12-educators
- Reviewer: Bekka (kudos to you for doing this Bekka!) - thanks, lurker.
- Green
- Great intro, and a nice range of tools and forums
- Yellow
- In-text dates need to be updated and text needs to be updated in Weeks 1 - 7
- No badges! This might be intentional, but if not, they can be a useful prompt, and a nice way to wrap up a course. - thanks, still working on badges
- Week 2 mentioned the CC Savvy challenge - maybe add a hyperlink?
- Red
- Other than needing to be updated, I think the overall structure and content of the course is great - as soon as it;s up to date, I think it'll be golden.
- List of Community Picks
- Do we need to keep two lists (one for featured courses on homepage, one for featured courses on courses list)?
- Proposal from Philipp is to collapse into one list
- Homepage -> Pull 3 courses randomly from the list
- Courses list -> Show all of them
- Update current list
- Process going forward?
- Let's all propose a course/courses and then DU will add them to the list (links please)
- Let's evaluate the list once a month (or quarterly) on the community call
- Tagline Test -> P2PU = A university for (on?) the web. Built by the learners.
- I <3 THIS. My only thought is learners is a bit wonky. Built by us? +1 maybe use a term that assumes many levels of participation. good point. "us" might feel a little bit exclusive (you are not us)? Agree. Built by everyone? (everyone is too anonymous - doesn't invite you). Built by the people.
- I'd ditch the "like" But other than that, it's great. "Like" ditched
- Can it just be University instead of A university? well it's a bit odd in US english, but we're less cultured..
- +1 on Rotating 2-3 taglines+1 No carousels on home page tho! :) - yeah however you want to implement it. Can we get blinking "under constructions" icones for the homepage? :) You can blink your eyes and it will be blinking, I promise!
