General P2PU Overview:
- The site is very dense - we need to reduce the interface as much as possible
- Make it easier to setup an account and start using the site
- Branding - fresh, clean, happy
- Dropping the idea of enrollment
- Remove "Beta" from above the logo
- New typeface for website - a san serif that's easy on the eyes and
- Logged in view is different from logged out view
- Call to action (sign up) on every page when not logged in - remove CTA when logged in (look at how Github does it)
- Looking to Skillshare (http://www.skillshare.org) for inspiration
- Looking to Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com) for inspiration
- Both Skillshare & Kickstarter are based on a 4 column layout and leading with content
We need to decide on the overall experience and purpose of joining P2PU.
Is it...
1.) Find a challenge
2.) Get help
3.) Receive a badge
or...
1.) Learn
2.) Track what you've learned
3.) Show what you've learned
4.) Help people learn
P2PU Homepage:
- Video is coming soon (not sure it's needed)
- Call to actions need to be apparent
- Testimonials
- Cool courses - courses are the content of the page
- We should tell a story
- Partners logos
- Quotes from writeups and mentions about P2PU
- Keeping large text explanation at top
- Make schools more prominent
Things to discuss with John:
- SoW landing page design - http://cl.ly/9WJa
- Featured courses
- School organizers
- Setup mailing list in SendGrid (?) for people wanting to be notified of Webmaking 101 launch
- Give that link to Zuzel to add to the new SoW page

Traige List
immediately:
- persist login forever [john]
- add facebook connect [john - low prio]
- remove concept of posting to "my wall" - all messaging will be course-centric [arlton]
- Note that this will remove the only place available at the moment for users communicate in public with their followers (only leaving one-to-one direct private messages).
- Does removing posting to my wall also include removing replying to activity on the user's wall (generated by subscriptions to external links)?
- Will the follower concept disapear? [no]
- Is this related to the mentorship design? Please move up the priority of designing how mentorship will work (how users will become mentors/mentees? where and the comunication between them will take place? UI details, ...)
- It seems to me that the "Dashboard" and "Profile" pages should be combined
- delete activitiy from dashboard page and offer courses that user is logged in to [arlton]
- Note that this will remove the only place in which users can go through activity generated from all the courses they are enrolled in. It affect the UX of users enrolled in multiple courses.
- topnav changes [arlton]
- remove "people" from nav
- I saw peers on one of the mockups (is it for mentors?).
- Will mentorship and peers inside a course/study group (plus people sharing the same profile tags) be the ways to know people?
- consolidate "view profile" and "edit profile" links down to just "my profile"
- Note that Edit Profile is wrongly named at the moment because the functionality it provides is a lot more than its name (basic edition of information from the profile, change email, change password, send badges to the open badge infrastructure, delete account, configure notifications, soon manage membership on courses).
- Where and how the funtionality currently available on Edit Profile will be displayed?
- move "chat" link to footer
- make "help" only a single-level link that goes to the handbook
- This means About P2PU, and other static pages will only be displayed on the footer.
- move language chooser to footer
- Will it change its form too?
- detect language from brower
- This is almost done already. How it works now:
- Non authenticated user visits http://p2pu.org or any page without the /en/ /es/ fragments and gets redirected to the same url but with the /en/ /es/ depending on the browser settings.
- When signup up user selects language to be used when logued in.
- Possible TODO: make default at signup/create profile page default to the locale on the url (and thus the browser setting).
- If the user manually types an url with /en/, /es/ the browser and profile settings are ignored
- Possible TODO: do not do this.
- P2PU logo should link to home page, not dashboard
- This means the user will have to do two clicks to reach their dashboard
- use a cookie to detect if user has visited site before and signed up and show a CTA (Call-to-Action) to signup
- top nav - left - "Learn" "Mentor"
- Noticed that the navigation bar on the mockups changes a lot between login and logout (are the two mockups on sync?)
- login changes
- username, email, password, p2pu newsletter checkbox (pre-checked)
- remove captcha
- remove display name
- consolidate the message for successful account creation into one message instead of two
- TODO: Add links to the messages sent now.
when homepage is redesigned:
- reroute: when a user logs in, direct to homepage
- Will the home page replace the dashboard?
course page
left column
- remove link "view full description" - it's not being used
- reword "participate" to "enroll" -- just curiosity: did you considered 'start' as a possible name for this button in challenges (should we redirect the user to the first task after adding them when they click enroll?)
- only show "enroll" button for courses that have enrollment
- move "report abuse" flag to bottom of left column
- remove tasks from left column
right column
- remove view link
- make right hand task list reorderable
- when you hover over a task, display a way to mark a task as completed
- when you hover over a task, js show a "read more" link that will ajax the first X characters of the task description and a close link to hide
- p2 allow thumbnail images for tasks
- show all tasks
- remove activity stream - it makes it look like this page is a place to have a discussion but it isn't.
create a course
kind - pare down and clarify
- Study Group -- group of people working collaboratively to acquire and share knowledge.
- Course -- led by one or more organizers with skills on a field who direct and help participants during their learning.
- Other -- if other, please fill out and describe the term you will use to categorize it.
